Abstract
Pregnancy-associated osteoporosis (PAO) is a condition that causes back pain, which affect pregnant women or in early postpartum. Persistent back pain can be caused that makes patients unable to perform daily activities. However, little is known about PAO with fewreports. Therefore, in the management of back pain in pregnant or postpartum women, misdiagnosis or delayed diagnoses are frequent. We report cases of PAO with severe back pain in order to provide better knowledge of the condition. X-rays revealed compressionfracture on thoracic and lumbar spine. Magnetic resonance imaging and bone mineral density was done with laboratory test to make a differential diagnosis. Treatment with oral bisphosphonate, calcium and vitamin D supplementation was started under the diagnosedof PAO. Patient¡¯s result of examination of bone density was recovered after follow up without back pain. PAO should be considered if severe back pain occurs in postpartum women.
